Day 4 Wednesday October 24

Today students started working on their summative assignment. Students are writing about what they what to be when they grow up. Next week some time students will be presenting what they have written.

Inquiry into Language:
Today students listened to chapter 4 of our novel study Song Lee in Room 2B. Students then answered the comprehension questions for this chapter. Students worked on making sure that they wrote their responses in complete sentences and added as much detail as they could remember.

Math:
Today students reviewed how to read fractions on a circle graph for our test on Monday. As a class we reviewed what 1/2, 1/4, and 1/8 look like on a circle graph.

Students then completed some practice worksheets. These were all very well done.

Reflection:
During our reflection time today we looked at the book,
This is a book that has no words only pictures. As we flipped through the book we stopped to discuss what we thought was happening and how we thought the main character was feeling. This book was about a little boy who migrated from Korea to America with his family and what it was like for him when he got to America.

Students noticed that at first the boy was very sad because he missed his home and his family. When the boy went to school he did not understand what the teacher was teaching because he did not speak the language. The boy later decided to embrace his new home by taking a walk through his neighbourhood listening to music that was playing, interacted with people, and bought a soft pretzel. After this they boy was happy to be living in America. Students learned that migration is not always an easy thing for people.

Today students started to work on their summative assignment. Students are creating their own game with their group members.

Inquiry into Migration
Today students finished drawing, colouring, and labeling the parts of the mode of transportation that they chose.

Daily Five:
Students today had some time to play literacy games. Some students played noun, verb, and adjective BINGO. Other students used wooden letters to make their own words, and other students worked on identifying their sight words.
