Dear SJA Families, 

Just a reminder that the SJA re-registration process is underway. To reserve your child’s 2020-2021 place at St. Jude’s Academy, complete and return your child’s re-registration forms and payment to Reception by Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at 4:00 pm.

After this date and time, any available grade-level spaces will be open to new families on waitlists.

In addition, the deadline for our  priority enrolment into our JK Program is Friday, January 17, 2020, a letter is attached with more information.

Our in-class competition will take place on February 3^rd, 2020. Students in Ms. Hughes’ class will be judged by me and the students in Ms. Coldwells’ class will be judged by Ms. Hughes. The top 3 from each Grade 2 classroom will move on to compete for 1^st, 2^nd, 3^rd place on stage on February 6^th, 2019. (Please wear your dress uniform)

Thursday, February 6: JK to SK at  9 am/Grade 1 to 3 at 10 am

Friday, February 7: Grades 4-6 at 9 am/Grades 7 to 8 at  11 am

SJA/TMA Interschool Competition: Thursday, February 27 - Time TBD

Dear SJA Parents/Guardians of Lower School Students (JK to Grade 8),

Preparation for St. Jude’s Annual JK to Grade 8 Oral Competition is under way. Students in Kindergarten recite a poem they have been given by their teacher to memorize. Grades 1 to 3 students retell a story. Students in Grade 4 write and recite an informative speech that they have prepared. Students in Grades 5 to 8 write and recite a persuasive speech that they have prepared. Six students from each grade will be selected by their teachers to participate in the presentations that take place in front of a larger audience with attending families and friends on Thursday, February 6 and Friday, February 7. Winners from this round will compete against students from The Maples Academy on Thursday, February 27.

Students wrote their spelling test. They then had some time to practice their speeches for Monday.

Math:
Today students continued to  work on recognizing names, edges, vertices and faces of 3D prisms and shapes. Students were given the shapes to help them count. We also talked about tricks for pyramids and prisms today we learned that when counting Pyramid Vertices - look at the bottom shape how many vertices does it have then add one. Prism vertices - look at the side shapes (both the same) how many vertices does it have? Double it.

Students completed their pulleys.

Today students used patterning blocks to make other shapes. 

Music:
Ms. McMillan is still away. During music time students reviewed their notes with Mrs. Autio. 

UOI:
We continued to learn about Pulleys. We watched this video to review what a pulley is and what it does. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nj4J7QNeBNk. We then talked about what pulleys students found at home.

As a class students built a pulley and tried lifting one of our table bins which was to heavy so then they tried a pen which worked.
