Day 3 Thursday January 9

Dear SJA Families,

We hope everyone will have a wonderful holiday break! Our Junior Kindergarten (JK) Registration season is fast approaching and we wanted to reach out to all of our families and friends to ensure that you are offered priority enrolment in our JK Program for the 2020-2021 academic year. Please let us know if you are interested in enrolling your child in our JK Program by Friday, January 10, 2020 at 4:00 pm. After this date and time, the spots will open up to new families on the waitlists.

If you are interested in enrolling your child in either program, please contact us and we will send you a registration package.

    Fine Art – Cultural Artifacts
In our current unit, we are learning about a range of cultures from around the world. For an in-class artwork assignment we want to use an artifact (from our own cultural background) and use our fine art skills to ‘draw what you can see’.
We kindly ask that your child brings in an artifact from their culture to sketch. This artifact should be able to comfortably fit on your child’s desk.
Artifacts can include but are not limited to the following:
    -       Mask
    -       Pottery
    -       Dolls/Figurines
    -       Coin
    -        Religious artifact (eg. icon)
    -       Jewelry
Please bring your artifact by Tuesday, January 14th.
Artifacts will be returned at the end of this unit in January.
    Many thanks,

    Ms. Hughes & Ms. Coldwells

Language:
Today students presented their speeches. We talked about what a good presenter does. They have a loud clear voice, they have good posture, they are not playing with anything, and they use expression. We did not get to everyone so we will continue tomorrow.

There is feedback from me in their agendas. Please continue to have students practice their speech at home.

Math:
Students practiced the adding strategy that we learned yesterday. You break apart the second number into tens and ones.

Mrs. McMillan was sick today. During this time Ms. Bancud introduced students to our new novel study Horrible Harry and the Holidaze. Students looked at the front cover, read the blurb on the back, and read the chapter titles. Students were then asked to make a prediction about what they think might happen in the book.

They also made their own book cover.

UOI:
Students continued to work on their dragons.
