Day 3 Monday September 17

Inquiry into Language:
Today students got new spelling words. They wrote them in their agendas and then worked on pages 10-12 in their spelling workbooks. Students worked on understanding the meaning of their words and practicing using them in sentences.
Math:
Today we continued working on base tens. We reviewed what base ten blocks look like and what they represent. (hundreds, tens and ones). We also reviewed how to write a base ten name and how to write a three digit number in words.  We did some examples on the board and some students came up to help us solve the problems. Tomorrow we will review what we did today and practice it in our workbooks.

Inquiry into Citizenship:

Today Students were told to imagine that they had to decide whether or not we should continue learning math or not. Students were told that Mr. Sawatsky was thinking about stopping math but needed their help to decide. Students took a minute to think about whether they thought math should stay or go and then got into partners to discuss why.

Students then got together with someone from the other side and discussed calmly with one another why they had the opinion they did.

Once students had finished their discussion we wrote down students arguments For and Against. Students were getting quite excited at this point and are looking forward to debating their side tomorrow.

Daily five:
During Daily 5 today we worked on finishing our plate Cities. Most students were able to finish and they will be outside on our bulletin for you to see soon.
Students who had finished their cities continued to work on their hand art. We will be starting the written portion of this activity tomorrow.
