Day 1 Monday March 23

Riddle of the day: What goes up but never comes back down? (I will post the answer at 3:30 every day or I can tell you the answer when we have our phone call in the afternoon.) Answer: Your age!

                                                                Quote of the Day

French:
Learning goal: Brainstorm, use previous knowledge and make connections to build a new set of vocabulary words.
Success criteria: I can think about words relating to a new concept using previous knowledge and make connections.

-We are starting our new unit about structures, buildings and materials (les structures et les bâtiments).

-Students will have to prepare a sheet of paper with:
·      The date in French (they should be able to write in French independently, if not “Lundi 23 mars 2020”).
·      They will need to write the title as we usually do in class:
  Les structures et les bâtiments.
·      The students should brainstorm using a bubble mind map (as usually done in class). Some hints for the brainstorm: think about verbs, people, names of structures, famous structures that they know, materials (les matériaux), adjectives that describe those structures…
·      As an extension the students can circle the nouns and underline the verbs.

-Attached is an example of the brainstorming bubble that I have prepared and expect the students to have some of the words I have included in theirs.
-Please give the students a chance to do their own thinking, research if they like on a device with your guidance and define the words before showing them the example provided.

2.     Follow along with this exercise video! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dhCM0C6GnrY

Ms. V’s Feedback: Great job! How do you feel after that workout? Are you sweaty? Are you thirsty? Can you feel your heart muscles working and getting stronger? By completing that workout, you are 30 minutes closer to completing your daily goal of 60 minutes of physical activity, but you also strengthened all of the muscles in your body! Music:
Welcome back to music class!  I hope you had a wonderful March break!  Later in the week I will be posting a video where you can sing vocal warm ups with me and favorite songs just like we do in music class but in your own home.  It will be fun!  Today for music class I would love for you to warm up your singing voices by composing your own vocal warm up like we do in class (such as "It is Monday" to do mi so do so mi do).  Then practice singing one of your favorite songs from music class such as "The Elevator Song."  After you have done that please compose your own song or parody (a song with lyrics that you make up set to a familiar tune like "twinkle twinkle").  The song should be about how important it is to stay home right now and why.  An example of a song three brothers composed can be found  by googling "Ladner brothers stay home."  Please write your song lyrics on paper.  You are welcome to email me the lyrics at amcmillan@stjudesacademy.com. When you are finished you can perform your song for your family!  Feel free to send me a video! When you are finished you can have fun composing songs online on the song maker website which is https://musiclab.chromeexperiments.com/Song-Maker/

1.Compose your own vocal warm up.
2. Sing one of your favourite songs from music class.
3.Compose your own song or parody about the importance of staying home right now.
