Dear SJA Families, 

Just a reminder that the SJA re-registration process is underway. To reserve your child’s 2020-2021 place at St. Jude’s Academy, complete and return your child’s re-registration forms and payment to Reception by Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at 4:00 pm.

After this date and time, any available grade-level spaces will be open to new families on waitlists.

In addition, the deadline for our  priority enrolment into our JK Program is Friday, January 17, 2020, a letter is attached with more information.

SJA Annual JK to Grade 8 Oral Competition

Thursday, February 6: JK to SK at  9 am/Grade 1 to 3 at 10 am

Friday, February 7: Grades 4-6 at 9 am/Grades 7 to 8 at  11 am

SJA/TMA Interschool Competition: Thursday, February 27 - Time TBD

Dear SJA Parents/Guardians of Lower School Students (JK to Grade 8),

Preparation for St. Jude’s Annual JK to Grade 8 Oral Competition is under way. Students in Kindergarten recite a poem they have been given by their teacher to memorize. Grades 1 to 3 students retell a story. Students in Grade 4 write and recite an informative speech that they have prepared. Students in Grades 5 to 8 write and recite a persuasive speech that they have prepared. Six students from each grade will be selected by their teachers to participate in the presentations that take place in front of a larger audience with attending families and friends on Thursday, February 6 and Friday, February 7. Winners from this round will compete against students from The Maples Academy on Thursday, February 27.

Dear SJA Lower School (JK to Grade 6) Families,

An annual event in the Lower School is our highly anticipated Year-Ahead Day. Students look forward to this fun tradition at St. Jude’s Academy where they get to skip ahead and spend the day in the next grade. Teachers will let students know who their Year-Ahead Day teacher is at the end of day on Friday, February 7, 2020. 

Please note that the placement for this day does not indicate class placement for the following school year.

Today students were given some information about Sparky the Robot Dog. As a class we read about Sparky and then students were asked to write an explanation using the information given.

Students were asked to come up with an introduction, put the information about Sparky into an order that makes sense, and then write a conclusion.

 Students who had finished writing about Sparky yesterday wrote an explanation about their own super robot dog.

The OWA requires students to write an explanation of a robot they invented. Sparky the Dog is set up the same way as they would write for the OWA explanation. By completing this students were able to visually see what is required of them and how to do it. Students will complete their own about a newly invented iPad next.

Today students sorted 3-D shapes based on their attributes into a 2 circle Venn diagram.

Today students continued learned about the lever. We watched a video, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lueqE0lxLyc

We also learned that a fulcrum is an important part of a lever.
