Day 4 Monday December 16

On December 17, 2019, students from Grade 3 to Grade 8 will put on two performances at the St. Jude’s Academy Dome. Our afternoon performance will begin at 1:00 pm, with doors opening at 12:30. Our evening performance will begin at 6:30 pm, with doors opening at 6:15 pm. Seating is on a first come, first serve basis. Please keep in mind that outside food and drinks are not permitted in the Dome.

For our evening performance, families are welcome to take our shuttle from St. Jude’s to the Dome and back. Shuttles will begin running from 6:00 pm until 7:00 pm. Please meet in the main office.

We encourage all families to come bundled up to stay warm and cozy for the entire show. The students and teachers have put a tremendous amount of work into their performances and kindly ask that all families stay and enjoy the show until the end.

-Thursday next week is Christmas spirit day (wear red, green, white, gold, Santa hat, etc...)

-Wednesday next week is casual day (for students who paid the $20 at the beginning of the year)

Our SJA Student Council is holding a clothing drive Thursday December 19. Please bring in gently used clothing that you no longer need. All donations will go to the Diabetes Association. Thank you in advance for your donations!!

Today students wrote their spelling words in their agendas and completed their spelling workout books.

Math:

Today students learned how to add and subtract three digit numbers using front end estimation. We started by reviewing how to round to the nearest 100.

Students then completed some addition and subtraction questions in their work books.

These are the steps we followed:

1. Round both numbers to the nearest 100.
2. Add or Subtract the two rounded numbers to get your estimated answer.

We had some trouble rounding to the nearest 100 today so we are going to do some more practice tomorrow.

UOI:
Today students followed instructions on how to make their own Christmas town Diagram.

Two other students received their Secret Santa gifts today.

Action

WHAT IS ACTION?

Many people think that Action is easy to define. It is something you do, right? But Action is much more than that. Action is a part of who we are. If we want to change the world we need to start with changing ourselves. But sometimes change is hard. How do we make changes to the way we think so we can help the world?

If we want children to make a difference in the world we need to help them personalize the action they take, and understand that it is not just a mandate from their teachers and parents, but a life long mindset they develop.

Taking action can happen at any age. It’s all about how we as parents, educators, and the community, support children and youth as they begin the learning journey towards becoming adults that are change agents!
