Day 6 Monday December 10

Today students practiced for the Christmas concert tomorrow at the dome. Students have been working really hard and are looking forward to perform for you.

Students also did some work finding verbs in sentences and writing a letter to Santa explaining whether they had been naughty or nice.

Students also worked on identifying ten more and ten less to help them with the addition strategy we learned last week.

Day 5 Friday December 7

Language: Today students wrote their spelling test.

Math: Today students worked on the strategy add on tens then ones. 

Students were asked to choose one number to break down. We said that the smaller number would be easier because their would be fewer ones to add.  

Students then broke the number down into tens and ones (30 and 6). Once we had broken it down  students added the tens (30) to the remaining whole number 38. 

Students learned that when adding these two numbers they are adding three groups of 10 to 38. So as a class we counted 48, 58, 68. 

Since we had already used 30 we crossed it out to see that we only had 6 ones left to add. Students added 68+6 to give them a total of 74. 

Students then practiced this strategy on their own in their workbooks answering these problems.

Day 4 Thursday December 6

Language: 
Students continued to practise for their conferences tonight.

Christmas concert:
We spent some time practising for our Christmas concert this week. There were a few actions that students were unsure how to execute so we went over them.  Everything is coming together nicely.

Day 3 Wednesday December 5

Today students continued to work on their student led conferences. Students finished writing their goals. 

Math:

Today we reviewed adding and subtracting with carrying and borrowing. Students practised different strategies such as making ten, doubles, and doubles plus one. Students worked on a practise sheet that gave them a riddle at the end. "What do Santa's elves fo after school?"

We used this time to practise for our student led conferences. Students got into groups of two or three and practiced what they were going to say tomorrow.

Day 2 Tuesday December 4

Language:
Today students continued to prepare for their student led conferences. As a class we brainstormed some strengths that students have. We also talked about how this is time for them to reflect on their own learning and work habits.

Math:
Today students continued working on double digit subtraction with borrowing. We reviewed which numbers we subtract first and when borrowing we only borrow one number.

Students then worked on some questions in their math journals.

Students continued to prepare for their student led conferences coming up on Thursday.

Day 1 Monday December 3

French: Mme. Rawan was away today.

Language: 
Today students wrote their spelling words in their agendas. Students are working on the consonant blends "l" and "r". Students then worked on pg. 54-56 in their workbooks.

Math:
Today students worked on two digit subtraction with borrowing. We did some examples together on the board.

Students were then given ten questions to work on in their math journals.

Today students finished their cultural flag posters and started preparing for their student led conferences on Thursday.
